How to find who doesn't follow you back on Instagram and unfollow in bulk
There are three ways to find the accounts you follow that don't follow you back: comparing by eye, using Instagram's own data download, or exporting both lists and comparing them. This guide walks through each one, then shows how to clean those accounts up without triggering an action block.

Three ways to find non-followers
Instagram has no screen that shows who doesn't follow you back. You have two lists: your followers and the accounts you follow. Non-followers are the accounts on the second list that are missing from the first. The only difference between the methods is what does the comparing.
- By hand: open both lists in the app and check names with the search box — fine for a few hundred follows, too slow beyond that
- Instagram's data download: official, free and no password shared; the file can take a while to arrive
- Exported lists: put both lists in a spreadsheet and compare; the fastest route for large accounts
Method 1: Instagram's data download (no app needed)
With this method you do not sign in to any third-party app; the lists come from Instagram itself. Menu names can differ slightly between app versions.
- Open the menu on your profile and go to "Accounts Center".
- Under "Your information and permissions", open "Download your information".
- Instead of everything, select only "Followers and following", and choose JSON or HTML as the format.
- Submit the request. Instagram notifies you when the file is ready; that can take minutes or hours.
- The archive holds separate files for followers and following. Paste the usernames from both into a spreadsheet and compare them.
Method 2: Export both lists and compare in a spreadsheet
If you don't want to wait for the download, or you plan to run this check regularly, you can get the lists as tables directly. IGFlow's data collection module returns a profile's followers and following as a CSV or Excel file.
- In the panel open "Data Collection", choose a profile's followers as the source and enter your own username.
- Repeat for the following list and choose XLSX as the format.
- Open both files in one workbook. Next to the following column, add a COUNTIF formula that checks whether each username appears in the followers list.
- Rows with a result of 0 are the accounts that don't follow you back. Filter them and copy them to a separate sheet.
Before you mass unfollow: limits and action blocks
Finding non-followers is the easy part; the real risk is unfollowing all of them in one sitting. Instagram treats a rapid run of unfollows as automated behaviour and can put a temporary action block on the account.
You will see figures such as "200 a day" or "60 an hour" online; none of them is an official Instagram statement. The threshold depends on the account's age, its history and what else it did that day. The safe approach is to start low, spread the actions over hours and raise the pace only if the account stays healthy.
- Don't fit the cleanup into one day; spread a list of several thousand accounts over days
- Leave varying gaps between actions, not a fixed interval
- Go slower still on a new account or one that has been idle for a long time
- Stop at the first warning; pushing on makes the restriction last longer
Step by step: unfollow non-followers with IGFlow
IGFlow's unfollow module does the comparison for you: right before each action it checks whether the account follows you, and it only unfollows the ones that don't.
- Select your account in the panel and open "Unfollow" from the menu.
- For the cleanup scope choose your whole following list. To use the list from Method 2 instead, paste it in as a custom list.
- Leave "Protect mutual follows" on, so the accounts that follow you back are never touched.
- Add the accounts you never want to unfollow to the whitelist: family, customers, brands you want to keep following.
- Pick a grace period. With 3 days, for example, accounts you followed in the last 3 days are skipped, which gives them time to follow back.
- Set the number of unfollows, the random delay between actions and the regular pauses, then start the task.
What protects you while the task runs
- Account limits: hourly, daily, weekly and monthly caps for unfollows; when a cap is reached the task waits and then continues where it stopped
- Working hours: no actions are sent outside the hours you set
- Live relationship check: even if the list is old, every account is checked again right before the action
- Safe stop: if Instagram signals a restriction, the task stops before sending another action
- Action log: the task details show who was unfollowed and who was skipped by which protection
A straight word on tools that ask for your password
Most apps that find non-followers ask you to sign in to your Instagram account, and the warnings about that are right: don't give your password to an app you know nothing about. If you only want to see the list, Method 1 is enough and you sign in nowhere.
IGFlow also works by connecting to your account; there is no other way to perform unfollows. You connect the account to the panel with its username and password, and enter the code if two-factor authentication is on.
IGFlow works through the account's own session rather than Meta's official messaging API. That is what lets it follow, like, watch stories and collect audience data, which the official API does not offer. It also means Instagram's terms restrict this kind of automation, and accounts can receive temporary action blocks or restrictions. IGFlow does not remove that risk; it aims to reduce it with per-account limits, working hours and detection of silently ignored actions.
Frequently asked questions
Can I see who doesn't follow me back on Instagram without an app?
Yes. Download your followers and following lists from Accounts Center and compare them. Instagram has no screen inside the app that shows this directly.
How many accounts can I unfollow per day?
Instagram publishes no official number; the threshold varies by account. Start with a low number, spread the actions through the day and increase gradually if nothing goes wrong.
Does someone get a notification when I unfollow them?
No, Instagram does not notify the person you unfollow. They only notice if they check their own follower list.
How long does an unfollow block last?
Instagram may not say; it can last from a few hours to a few days. Pause follows and unfollows during that time, then continue at a slower pace.
Will accounts I just followed be unfollowed too?
Not if you choose a grace period. Follows newer than the number of days you pick are skipped.
